Teaching award for excellence in teaching and learning

The Faculty of Engineering is committed to excellence in teaching and learning. The Award for Teaching Excellence has been established to recognize and encourage outstanding instruction, curriculum development and innovation in the classroom and laboratories.

Up to two awards will be presented annually. The names of the Award Winners will be displayed on a permanent wall plaque placed near the general office of the Dean of Engineering and a certificate provided to the winner.

Selection Committee:

The Teaching Award Selection Committee consists of:

  • two student representatives: one selected by the Engineering Student Society; one selected by the Computer Science Course Union;
  • one faculty member from each department in the faculty appointed by the Dean;
  • Dean of Engineering (committee Chair).

In the event the Dean is nominated, the Associate Dean (Undergraduate Programs) will chair the committee.

Procedures:

Nominations may be initiated by faculty, staff or students. Nominees must have at least three years teaching experience within the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Victoria and may be full-time or part-time and include tenured, untenured, Teaching Assistant Professors and sessional faculty, as well as laboratory instructors who are involved in extensive teaching functions.

Nominations may be submitted at any time using the nomination form below. The Selection Committee will meet in late May to consider all new nominations received by the mid-May deadline.

Previous winners within the past six years of this award or of the University of Victoria Alumni Award for Excellence in Teaching are not eligible.
